Before diving into Figma and experimenting with screens, I like to first grab my sketchbook and start developing an understanding of how I want the feature to work. I find this step to be one of the most crucial points of my process. It helps in a similar way to a journey map but allows me to work through the user flow while also visualizing the project coming to life.

When setting out to create a new feature for the Spotify App, I spent a lot of time playing with how the app currently works. I also took note of design trends across their various systems. Luckily, Spotify has their design system published, so it took all the guess work out of my ideation phase.

I wanted the interface to be clear and simple, much like existing features within the Spotify App.

I determined that the most important information for users when first arriving at the new Hub would be recommended playlists, upcoming local concerts and events, and places around the world with similar listening habits.
